Austin Woman Killed in GMC Jimmy Rollover

A 29-year-old Austin, Texas woman was killed and two children seriously injured when the SUV she was driving rolled over on a highway near Tilden, Texas on Sunday morning.

Iliana Cantu was traveling north on Highway 16 just south of Tilden around 11 a.m. when she apparently lost control of the 1997 GMC Jimmy (SUV)she was driving as she approached a curve in the road, according to authorities. The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) investigators said the GM Jimmy veered off into a ditch and rolled over numerous times.

Ms. Cantu was ejected from the vehicle, investigators reported. A 6-year-old girl was taken to a Jourdanton hospital and was in stable condition later that day. A 4-year-old boy was taken by helicopter to Driscoll Children’s Hospital in Corpus Christi and was listed in critical condition. (Jan. 16, 2006)
