SUV Rollover Accident

Two people are dead and several others injured today after their vehicle rolled over on a highway
in rural Duval County.

Most of the victims are thought to be illegal immigrants.

The Department of Public Safety says the accident happened just before noon on the northbound lane of state Route 339 near FM 285.

Troopers say all of the dead and injured were inside an SUV that was speeding. The driver had a blowout, lost control and flipped the vehicle at least once.

Several of the victims were ejected. Two were pronounced dead at the scene and another was brought by air ambulance to a Harlingen hospital.

In all troopers say there were 16 people in the SUV. Two of them are still missing.
