Ford Escape Rollovers

In 2001 Ford Motor Company introduced the Ford Escape. It has an unibody construction, like a car, rather than the truck-based, body-on-frame design. The Ford Escape made its public debut at the North American International Autoshow in January 2000 and was an all-new model for Ford in 2001.

The small 4-door Escape fills out Ford's SUV lineup that includes Explorer, Expedition and Excursion. The  Ford Escape also features 4-wheel independent suspension. Unlike the rest of Ford's SUVs, the Escape has a front-wheel-drive powertrain.

According to Ford  "...The new Ford Escape, smaller than the best-selling Ford Explorer, is designed to appeal to younger buyers as well as the young at heart - drivers who want fun, agile, sporty, durable yet affordable transportation for their active lifestyles..."

FORD ESCAPE RECALL PROBLEMS

The new Ford Escape however, has been plagued by numerous recalls. The Ford Escape recalls include safety belt buckles covers that can fracture causing the latch not to safely function, potential fire hazard from a damaged O-ring near the fuel filter, loss of steering control due to incorrectly manufactured nut, cracked or missing steering control cap resulting in a stuck accelerator / stuck throttle and the wrong 4X4 hubs used on 4x2 possibly resulting in the rear wheels loosening and separating from the vehicle. Each of these has the potential for causing a accident resulting in injury or death. In fact, reported accidents and injuries have occurred and will continue far into the future. A Ford Escape rollover or serious wreck can occur if the throttle linkage becomes stuck in the acceleration or wide open position. Several reports of struck accelerators (gas pedal linkage) have been reported to NHTSA.
