Japanese carmakers broaden Takata airbag recall

Three Japanese automakers recently decided to expand their recall to vehicles worldwide that are equipped with potentially dangerous Takata airbags, BBC News reported on June 25.

Reports said Nissan, Toyota and Mitsubishi have decided to include all the vehicles in their recall after recalling vehicles in North America. The broadened recall of the three companies is expected to affect approximately 30 models totaling 3.2 million vehicles. Toyota recently added 1.37 million vehicles to their recall after Takata complied with U.S. regulators to broaden their own recall. Takata chief executive Shigehisa Takada issued an apology for the controversial airbag issue in a news conference.
