Automaker giant Chrysler is being investigated by U.S. safety regulators after several SUV owners whose airbags were fixed in a 2012 recall experienced unintended airbag activation, Fox Business reported on June 2.

The effectiveness of Chrysler’s airbag recall of the 744,822 SUVs will be studied by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after six sudden airbag deployments were reported, some resulting in minor injuries. Substandard airbag circuits in the previously recalled SUV models were alleged to sometimes deploy airbags without warning. Chrysler fixed the electrical surges in the defective airbag systems by installing an integrated electrical filter. The automaker assured that they are complying with the NHTSA’s recall investigation. Airbag defects in vehicles increase the risk of injuries sustained during accidents.
