Two college football players and another passenger were killed in a rollover crash along U.S. Highway 550 in New Mexico on Monday, July 29.
Former Euless Trinity High School teammates Polo Manukainiu and Gaius “Keio” Vaenuku and Andrew Uhatafe died when the 2002 Toyota Sequoia that was being driven by Siaosi Uhatafe swerved off the road and rolled over several times. Reports indicate that of the 5 occupants, only University of Utah offensive tackle Siaosi Uhatafe and his father, Salesi Sr. were able to survive.
Additional reports from the state police show that the Toyota Sequoia was heading south when it careened off the road towards the right side. The driver apparently lost control as he tried to stabilize the vehicle, causing it to roll violently around 5 times. A witness said they saw two occupants thrown from the SUV.
Manukainiu and Vaenuku played defensive linemen for Texas A&M and the University of Utah respectively.
